Closure Announcement for Aquinas Early Childhood Center

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closing of the Aquinas Early Childhood Center (AECC). Since opening in 2008, AECC has faithfully served many families from both the St. Thomas Aquinas parish and the surrounding community.

Our beloved AECC Director, Mrs. Erum Khan, has accepted a new position that offers her an opportunity for growth, leadership, and a wider reach to share her gifts and talents. In light of her decision, our pastor, Fr. Jaison Thomas convened the Pastoral Council, the Finance Council, and the School Board—with guidance from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston—to discern the best path forward.

After much prayer, thoughtful discussion, and careful consideration, it was determined that closing the school is in the best interest of the parish at this time. Several factors led to this conclusion, including a decline in enrollment due to the increasing availability of lower-cost or free daycare options, and the limited timeframe to find a qualified, certified director to succeed Mrs. Khan.

This decision was not made lightly. Many members of the councils have seen firsthand the positive impact AECC had on their own children and grandchildren. They extend their heartfelt sympathy to the families and staff affected by this closure.

The Aquinas Early Childhood Center will officially close on Friday, August 29.

As people of faith, we trust that God’s plans are greater than our own. With steadfast hope and confidence in His goodness, we believe that new joys and opportunities will spring forth—even from sorrow. To God be the glory.
