MISSION STATEMENT

"We the Parishioners of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church are a diverse Christ-Centered

community empowered by the Holy Spirit and strengthened by

the Word and the Sacraments to Proclaim the Good News"

SOME HISTORY

St. Thomas Aquinas Parish was formally established by Rev. John Morkovsky, Bishop of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, on December 10, 1978. Most Rev. Joseph A. Fiorenza, Bishop of Galveston-Houston, celebrated the dedication ceremony of the newly built Sanctuary on November 21, 1993.

Rev. Kevin C. Thissen, who succeeded founding pastor Rev. William J. Aldridge, was pastor

at the time of dedication.

Both Fr. Aldridge and Fr.Thissen were members of the Dominican Order. Aldridge Hall and theThissen Center were constructed during their respective tenures and named in their honor.

Upon the death of Fr. Thissen after 22 years of service in June 2005, Archbishop Fiorenza appointed Fr. Joseph K. Kalladan, a diocesan priest, as pastor. Fr. Kalladan served nine years, during which time the parish doubled its land area by purchasing eleven additional acres. When Fr. "KK" retired at the end of June 2014, the parish was completely debt-free.

Fr. Santy Kurian, a member of the Missionaries of St. Francis De Sales, was appointed pastor by Daniel Cardinal DiNardo on July 1, 2014. He served the parish six years before being assigned to St. Bartholomew's Church in Katy.

Under Fr. Kurian's guidance, the parish embarked on the St. Thomas Aquinas Cares Capital Campaign in 2018. The three-year campaign will fund upgraded traffic flow and parking, improved Catholic identity in the community, and an onsite rectory that can accommodate two priests.

On July 4, 2020, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo appointed Fr. Joseph Pottemmel pastor and Fr. Mathew Thayil parochial vicar.

We are a culturally diverse and vibrant parish that continues to grow as a result of the generous sharing of time, talent and treasure by our wonderful parishioners.
